Meet the Team

Name: Mike Parkington
Job Role: General Manager

Q. How long have you worked at Technical Absorbents (TAL)?

I have been with TAL since 2013. I have, however, worked on the same site in Grimsby since 1989 - initially in the Acrylics business, then in the production of Carbon Fibre and Pre-Cursor.

Since 2006, I have spent a significant amount of time in China supporting Bluestar on the commercialisation of both Aramid and Carbon Fibre businesses.

Q. If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do, what would it be?

To be honest, I think General Manager pretty much covers what I do on a daily basis. I ‘generally’ manage the team and in a way act as the ‘glue’ that as a team gives us our excellent cohesiveness.

It's my role to ensure that we all work together effectively to achieve our short, medium and long-term strategic goals. I am incredibly proud of the team we have here in TAL and the way everyone pulls together to get the job done.

Q. What are the values that drive you?

For me, being open and honest is fundamental as this is the basis for any effective relationship be it at home or work. A strong work ethic, having an open mind and also the ability to take on-board constructive feedback from friends and colleagues is also incredibly important.

Q. What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

That there is no ‘rewind’ button in life – something that we all need to remember and reflect on. All too often it’s easy to get focused on what problems you believe you have, when really you should focus on what you have achieved and ultimately how lucky you are.

Q. Where's your favourite place you've travelled to?

I am incredibly fortunate to have visited many places both privately and as a part of my career. France would be my stand-out country. It’s not too far to travel and I have always found a far more relaxed pace of life and people that are welcoming. There are plenty of fantastic places to visit, not to mention the excellent food & wine!
